OK, So here's the update
Life sucks. I haven't been able to pay rent since I moved here, away from a job, like a complete moron, simply because someone who turned out to be utter dead weight insisted it was "now or never"

Worse yet, since November, even my the eminantly hirable Sarah has been unable to find employment.

We're heading into what could very well be another Great Depression.

I'm leaving this library, and heading off to a US Air Force Recruiting office. That's the deal.

In the last Great Depression, people joined the military in droves, because it was a reliable and hiring employer, and one of the only ones. This WILL happen again, and I plan to get there before they stop bribing quite so effectively.

Let's be honest here. I have a shitty employment history. I've never worked anywhere on paper for more than six months. and it's becoming clearer and clearer that noone wants me to work for them. I'm going to die poor and alone if I don't do this.

That is all.

My father joined the Air Force during the Korean War, not because he wanted to go there (and he didn't), but because he wanted a college education and that was the only way he figured he could get one. As it turned out, he ended up, after the Air Force paid for both a batchelor and master's degrees, being one of the first computer programmers they had. He stayed in for 20 years, and then had a very lucrative career working for Boeing for another 17 years. Yes, with the current situation, you are likely to end up going to the Middle East, but, depending on your MOS, you will most likely be ok. If you like, I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who has done several tours in Iraq in the Air Force.

The military has always been an alternative for poor people. Remember, make that recruiter work for you, and get everything they promise in writing.

Sadly, they inform me that without another 15 college credits, I can't join.

Damned GED. I don't see why they don't accept it, when over and over they find that most high-school graduates can't pass the damned thing,
